The Hoyle SoundLab is part of the Creative Space at CBCPL. It serves as a recording studio for amateur podcasts, music production, or other projects. Please take a look at the usage policy related to the SoundLab.
The Hoyle SoundLab is funded through private money from the Leah Fletcher Hoyle Fund (managed by the Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County).
Hoyle SoundLab Useage Policy
The Hoyle SoundLab is a creative space for the community of Cleveland Bradley County that caters to music and video creation, performing, recording, and editing. The guidelines for usage are:
- The Hoyle SoundLab is open to individuals of all ages with a valid CBCPL library card that is in good standing.
- Individuals 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Cell phone conversations are not permitted unless the conversation is a part of a recording.
- Please respect the reservation policy. Reservations will be held for 10 minutes after they are scheduled to begin and will be canceled if not used.
- Reservations are limited to 2 hours per day, no more than 3 days a week.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the SoundLab.
- Individuals using the SoundLab must adhere to guidelines found in the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library Policy and Procedure manual. Disruptive behavior including but not limited to profanity and alcohol or drug use is prohibited.
- SoundLab hardware and software are to be used for digital media projects only. Individuals or groups who want to browse the Internet or use Microsoft Office products should use the Computer Lab or reserve a study room at the Circulation Desk.
- Saving work on the SoundLab computer is prohibited. Individuals must save projects on a personal external memory source. The Library is not responsible for altered, unsaved, or corrupted work. *Please note that large files may take extra time to save or export. Please be mindful of that when planning your reservation.
Individuals may not install, download, update or modify the software. Please inform staff if updates are required for the following computer software:
- Garageband by Apple
- Logic Pro X by Apple
- DaVinci Resolve 16
- iMovie
- PowerDirector
Individuals may not dismantle hardware
- iMac 27″ (1)
- Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 interface
The Library is not responsible for valuables left in the Hoyle SoundLab.
Violation of the SoundLab rules may result in an abrupt end of the recording and/ or mixing project, finished or not. All Individuals must be respectful of the premises and adhere to proper use of our equipment. Individuals will be responsible for damaged SoundLab property. The Hoyle SoundLab staff and volunteers reserve the right to decline service. Situations that may result in declining service include, but are not limited to, projects containing offensive materials or those we are unqualified to handle, failure to adhere to Cleveland Public Library Policy and Procedure, or disruptive behavior.
Copyright Warning: If you did not write the material yourself, and it was written after 1923, then you may be responsible for copyright licensing fees on each copy of the song you distribute. It is the artist’s responsibility to comply with applicable copyright laws in regard to any “cover” songs that are included in the project. Accordingly, the individual(s) agrees to secure any and all appropriate licenses and further agrees to indemnify and hold the Hoyle SoundLab, and its owners and employees, harmless of any and all liability that may arise from the violation of any laws. It is suggested that the artist(s) files their original works with the United States Copyright Office (http://www.copyright.gov/) so that their rights to copyright protection are established. It is also recommended to have a qualified copyright law attorney review your entire product before mass production.
