The Friends of the Library Association, FOLA has been busy planning several Fall activities for the public and its members. On September 18th they will host their Book and Coffee Series at 10am at the Craigmiles-Johnston House History Branch Library. Beverly Johnson, FOLA member will review the book, Julie & Julia by Julie Powell. This book recounts with humor of Bridget Jones how Julie Powell conquered every recipe in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking and at the same time saved her soul.
Powell is a 30-years-old, living in a rundown apartment in Queens and working at a soul-sucking secretarial job that’s going nowhere. She needs something to break the monotony of her life and invents this deranged assignment. She decides to cook all 524 recipes in the span of one year and write a blog on it.

The Book and Coffee Series is open to the public. FOLA provides the coffee. There will not be a Book and Coffee event in October because of the Author Event schedule on October 20th. More information will be available soon.

FOLA will host a membership reception on September 23rd at 12 pm until 2pm in the new Bradley County Community Room on the first floor of the library. This is the time for all members to come and see the new library, take tours and enjoy some wonderful refreshments. If you are not a member of FOLA please stop by and join this wonderful organization that supports the library in so many ways.

The Children’s department is still taking reservations for the Teddy Bear picnic co-sponsored by FOLA and Junior Auxiliary on Sept 19th. This year the picnic will begin at 9am and continue until 12pm. The first 200 children will receive bear hears and a free book to take home. Call today to reserve your child’s spot at 472-2163.

The Bookmobile will be making its neighborhood stop on Sept.15th at Forest Grove Apartments from 6pm until 7pm.

The Library has free Wi-Fi. There are several areas for you to sit and use your lap top computer to surf the internet or do your research. With the new addition the Library was able to provide the much needed space our patrons wanted to work at tables or to relax on comfortable chairs and sofas. Enjoy the services offered here at your new expanded Library.

We have recently installed new public computers on the first floor of the Library in the Fiction area. These computers have internet access but do not have access to printers. If you need to print any information from your research you will have to use the computers on the second floor of the Library either in the Non-fiction area or the Reference Department. All printing is available after you establish an account with the Reference Desk. Black and white copies are $.25 and color copies are $1. per sheet.

Beginning September 1, the Library will now charge out of county residents $15 annually for a library card. This is in keeping with what our local government contributes per resident toward the Library’s budget.

The Bookmobile will be making its neighborhood stop Tuesday, September 1, at Cherokee Hill Apartments from 6:00pm until 7:00pm.

The Library will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.
