Library Corner, July 19, 2009
The Library is set to reopen tomorrow morning at 9am. Most things are in place but the construction crew will still be finishing up some small detailed items for a few weeks. The books, tapes, CDs, DVDs and computers are all in place and ready to go. Patrons will find it easy to see everything with all the new space.
This is a good time to consider purchasing a commemorative brick from the Friends of the Library Association’s Brick campaign. For $100 you can purchase a brick which will then be engraved to honor a special person, commemorate an event, highlight a group or business or make sure your family is represented in the Library garden. Forms are available at the Library or online at our website. The project is set to begin this fall.
Kids be sure to turn in your reading logs as you finish up your summer reading for the “Be Creative” reading program. The end of the year party will be held Friday, July 31st from 4pm until 6pm at Lee University’s park on the corner of 8th and Ocoee Streets just north of the Library. All summer reading participants who completed the required number of books are invited to attend this fun event.
Teens, don’t forget about the writing contests this summer. The categories are short fiction (2,000 words or less), poetry and haiku review. The first prize in each category will be a $10 gift certificate to Books-A-Million and a goody bag. The deadline for submission is July 31st. All entries will be published on our Teens Connect blog at the end of the summer.
