The Library is hopping these days. For those of you who can’t seem to find the entrance to the Library, it is in the middle of the parking lot. The old entrance has been boarded up and currently under reconstruction. The parking lot should now be open and paved. There are 50 parking spaces in the front of the library building. Additional parking is available across the street and on the street parking on Church Street.
Friends of the Library Association, FOLA has decided to continue their Book and Coffee Series through the summer this year. The June selection is Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. It will be held on the 19th at the Craigmiles-Johnston House History Branch Library at 10am. The book will be reviewed by members of the Table of Content Book Club. Angels & Demons is part thriller, part mystery and all action. Crammed with Vatican intrigue and hi-tech drama, Brown’s tale is laced with twists and shocks that keep the reader wired right up until the final revelation. Packing the novel with sinister figures worthy of a Medici, Brown sets an explosive pace through a Michelin-perfect Rome.
Join FOLA members at this stimulating review. The public is invited to this free event. Coffee provided by FOLA.
Registration is continuing for the “Be Creative” summer reading program. Be sure to pick up your reading log and book mark and start the summer off right reading a book of your choice. Remember there are no tests or book reports with this summer reading program. The Scholastic Book Fair is continuing until the middle of the month. All books are half priced and remember the proceeds go to purchase additional books for our Children’s library. Story time will continue meeting this summer at 10:30am on Tuesday and Friday morning. Bring your children or grandchildren in to hear some of the best children’s literature. Although our space is a little crowded, the Children’s library is still the active place to be in town. Look for sign up sheets for different summer activities when you stop by.
The teens are busy with their own activities this summer. Monday, June 8 there will be an anime viewing from 3pm until 5pm. On Thursday, June 11 there’s a Book Scavenger Hunt. The player who follows the clues to collect the most books wins a new book. And the Saturday night Coffeehouse will continue on June 13th from 6pm until 8pm. The Library is open just for teens on coffeehouse night. Drinks and desserts are provided. It is a great place to come and hang out with your friends.
The Bookmobile will be making its neighborhood stop on Tuesday, June 9 at 15th Street and Aurora Avenue from 4:45pm until 5:25pm. The next stop of the evening will be at Lay Street across from the Girls and Boys Club from 6:00pm until 6:45pm and then onto Elrod Place from 6:45pm until 7:00pm.
The Library will be closing on Monday, July 6 and will reopen on Monday, July 20th. This will be the final move for the Library. When the Library reopens everything will be in its permanent place.
